Ohio Young Farmers Tour Saturday, March 12, 2011 Listed below are the stops for the upcoming OYF Winter Reunion. The day’s activities will conclude with a banquet at The Pioneer Mill of Tiffin. Poet-- the world’s largest ethanol producer. The company began operation in Fostoria on Sept. 30, 2008 with a state-of-the-art production facility. The plant uses 22 million bushels of locally grown corn to produce 68 million gallons of ethanol annually. You will learn about the manufacturing of ethanol and see the complete ethanol processing system at Poet. You will learn about how local farmers provide grain, how it is processed and stored. Mennel Milling- The company has been milling wheat into flour since 1886. The flour is used not only by nationally known companies, but also by independent bakers. You will see how the grain is converted into flour for the use in cake mixes, cookies and more. Mennel can dry flour as well as thermal process flour. They also produce wheat bran and wheat germ. Fremont Company See how sauerkraut, ketchup and other sauces are produced, packaged at this local fourth generation family-operated business. Heidelberg Water Quality Lab Learn about the national testing of water right here in Tiffin. Tour the facility and learn all about the quality of our water. Crystal Traditions Experience firsthand Seneca County’s unique glass heritage as you watch works of art created before your eyes. Take a tour of the factory, browse the showroom, and enjoy a one-of-a-kind glass-blowing demonstration.
